Today’s alternate route on the annual Hobart Point to Pinnacle didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits, with more than 3,000 people participating in the marathon!
A mountain-top finish was ruled out for this year’s Point to Pinnacle due to severe weather. Organizers of the event said snow, ice and very strong winds forced the route to be changed, with the finish being at the Longley International Hotel.
The temperature on the top of kunanyi/Mt Wellingon at 7.50am was -1.9C with an apparent temperature of -12.4C. Winds were gusting to 46km/h.
38-year-old Ben St Lawrence from Kensington, NSW finished the 21.1km marathon from Wrest Point to the Longley International Hotel this morning in just under one hour and 4 minutes.
TV superstars Carrie Bickmore and Tommy little and viral internet sensations Christian Hull and Emmylou Loves were among those participating in the marathon, with all four aiming to raise money for Carrie’s ‘Beanies 4 Brain Cancer’ foundation’.
The marathon runners and walkers participating in the Beanies for Brain Cancer fundraiser raised close to $150,000 combined, an INCREDIBLE amount!
Congratulations to all of those who participated in this year’s Point to Pinnacle!
