The Bureau of Meteorology have issued an alert for Southern Tasmanians today, with snowfalls, thunderstorms and potentially damaging winds all expected.
A Severe Weather Warning is current for damaging west to northwesterly winds over southern Tasmania today, with winds averaging 50–60km/h and peak gusts of 100 km/h.
The strong and gusty winds are expected to peak between 10am–4pm today over the south before easing this evening.
Winds will also average 50–60 km/h over the north of the state throughout today with peak gusts of 80–90 km/h expected.
Thunderstorms with small hail are possible about the west and far south until this evening.
15–25 mm of rainfall is expected in the west and far south today, and up to around 5 mm elsewhere.
Snowfalls to around 700 metres are expected today, lowering to around 500 metres over most areas on Friday.
Snowfalls retreat to higher elevations above 1,000 metres by Saturday afternoon; however, it will likely to be a frosty morning around the Midlands and north of the state.
